What is the value of your car? 4

Are you scratching your head, continually asking yourself “how do I value my Ford?” If you wish to sell your Ford, the first step is to understand the value of it in its current condition, including any additional features it may have.

To determine the value of the Ford you own, the first step is to get a cursory evaluation by doing some research on the make and model online. You can often get an idea of what price a used Ford will sell for based on what others are being offered, or by looking at previous sales. This information is then modified based on the specifics of your car:

•    The more mileage your vehicle has, the lower the value of the car.
•    The more features the vehicle has, the higher the value, assuming the features are not special customizations that most people will not appreciate.
•    The mechanical condition of the vehicle is often vital. Have a certified mechanic evaluate the overall health of the vehicle from this standpoint.
•    Determine the cosmetic condition of the vehicle, as well as the physical condition of the exterior and the interior.

Take it upon yourself to research the value of your car, based on how the other models of Fords like your own are selling. Doing this gives you the information you need to sell your car at the highest price possible.

Things to look for when buying a used car 2

Just looking at a freshly painted used BMW M5 or used Volkswagen Golf or any other used car that looks well maintained tempts many of us.  Before finalising the deal on a used car, a thorough inspection needs to be carried out to find out whether all the parts are in good working order.  This helps prevent paying a hefty sum towards maintenance and insurance after the purchase.

Here is a practical checklist to keep in mind:

•    Check the year of registration and note the distance that the car has travelled.  If it reads between 15,000 and 18,000 km within a span of three to five years, it is worth considering it for purchase.  This will depend on your available budget of course.  If you have less to spend you may have to purchase a car with a higher mileage.
•    Look at the paintwork.  If it looks very dull, double-check the documentation details and ensure that the car is the age the seller claims it to be.  If the paintwork looks too new, be careful to find out when it was repainted (maybe accident repair) and check the quality of the painting.
•    Inspect the body of the car for any damage.
•    Go for a test drive; assess the condition of the brakes and the engine health.  The engine should start smoothly without any unusual sounds.  You need to also pay attention to the exhaust and ensure that it does not emit oil.
•    Drive for at least 4 – 5 km and check for steering control and any wobbling feelings through the steering wheel.
•    Check all the lights (cabin, rear, reverse and dipping).
•    The tyres, bearings and springs should be in good condition.
•    The battery should not have any acid leakage around it.
•    Additional accessories like the audio system, air conditioning should work properly.

You are in the market for a new car and this time you want to try buying a used car to save some money.  A used Mini Clubman seems like a perfect fit for you and your family and you’ve done all your homework as far as fuel mileage, reliability reports, and general good reputation for the Mini manufacturing company.

Now it’s time for you to set out and take a good look at those you find online and in advertisements.  The descriptions are pointed and outline what you want to know about each vehicle.  Armed with the dealer addresses for three different used Mini Clubman vehicles, you can now set out to observe the final leg of your search.

What should you look for?  The ideal time to go and look at used cars is when the daylight is very good. Never check out a car when it is rainy, snowy, or foggy.  You want to get a good look and weather, such as raindrops, will obscure flaws that you will want to know about.

Look for uneven doors that would signify a previous accident.  Check thoroughly for rust, and don’t forget to look at the brake pipes to inspect them for rust.  Look for uneven or odd looking spots or paint, as this can also tell you that the car was in an accident.

A data check for the car’s history will turn up anything that you might want to know about.  The car should be free title and not stolen, of course, or have the odometer altered.  Know what you are buying and you should have a nice long relationship with your new used car.

Reliability Survey for Used Cars 20

Whether your next car will be a used BMW 3 Series or something completely different, if you plan to buy used, be sure to research the reliability factor of the models that you are interested in.  Some cars hold their value longer than others.  Many cars built today can be considered very dependable, five or even ten years after their initial voyages.

On the other hand, there are some that are not quite so good after a certain period of time or mileage has passed.  So if you plan to put your money into a new used car, why not buy something that will still have many good years and miles left on it rather than one that will last just long enough for your warranty to run out?

For example, if you want to buy a sporty car and you look at the list of reliable used vehicles, you might see that a used BMW 1 Series Convertible is quite reliable after even a few years on the road with its original owner.  Getting your heart set on a specific vehicle is quite alright, but take a look at the possibility that the one you think you want could cause problems for you in short order.

It’s a very good idea to check with the current reliability survey to see which cars are at the top of the list and then choose one from there.  That is a practical way to find the used car you like at a good price.  You will be less likely to be disappointed in the long run.

Checklist for Buying Used Cars 15

There aren’t many of us that can claim to be car experts, though we drive them every day and depend on our vehicles to carry us flawlessly from place to place.  When you are in the market to buy a new car and you want to buy a used one, there are some questions you need to ask and use your answers to make your final decision.

Whether you want a practical, used Fiat 500 or something sportier or larger in size, you can use the same questions to help make your purchase.  The generalities of buying a used car can be summed up in just a few simple rules that all should follow to make a smart purchase.

To begin with, look at the miles that are on the car.  Because town miles are harder on a car than open road miles, you should find out, if possible, what kind of miles were put on the car.  Next, the VIN plate number must be the same number that is on the engine and on the documentation to be sure that the history check is accurate.  If the two numbers don’t match, there could be a false history report on the vehicle.

Finally, do a history check.  This will tell you whether the financing has been paid off or if there is outstanding money due.  It will tell you how many miles should be on the car so the mileage on the dashboard should match the history.  This is also how you would find out if you are buying a stolen used Fiat Panda with the snazzy two tone paint styling.

The Most Popular Cars in Britain 18

Whilst everyone has different priorities when it comes to buying a car, such as price, size, loyalty to one manufacturer or model or the perceived attractiveness of a vehicle, popularity is important to many people.  Here is a list of some of the most popular cars in the country along with what makes them so appealing.

The most popular car in both 2009 and 2010 was the Ford Fiesta Supermini.  Over 100,000 were registered in 2010 alone.  That means that approximately one in 20 cars sold in Britain in 2010 was the Supermini.  Unsurprisingly, the Supermini is expected to be one of 2011’s most popular cars.  The Supermini’s success can be put down to many factors, such as a general trend in favouring smaller, more economical motors and the fact that it seems to appeal to all types of drivers, regardless of sex, occupation or lifestyle.  It seems the Supermini really is the car for the masses.

Another popular all-round car is the Vauxhall Astra.  This is a smart and visually attractive car that can be seen as sporty and fun whilst at the same time being practical and efficient.

A very popular car for families is the Ford Focus.  The car is efficient yet spacious, well designed, smart yet attractive.  A new model of this popular family hatchback is bound to be one of 2011’s most wanted vehicles.

Other very popular cars at the moment include the Vauxhall Corsa and the Volkswagen Golf.

The Used Mini – A “Cherished” British Icon 15

Posted by cars21 in Car Buying Guide, Car News, Mini on 02 15th, 2011

Designed as a rival to small German cars both the used Mini and the new Mini have become ‘cherished’ British icons.  It was first brought to life on the drawing board in 1957 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). Leonard Lord, then head of BMC, gave the directive to design a miniature car – hence the term ‘Mini’ that was less than ten feet long yet with six feet of passenger space.  A great design team led by Sir Alec Issigonis presented Britons with the Mini in 1959.  It didn’t overwhelm audiences at first, but over time, especially with help from British royalty and the movies (The three key films being: A Shot In The Dark, The Magical Mystery Tour and of course, The Italian Job) helped this car seal itself into the hearts of the British.

Used Mini Buyers Should Seek Approval

Whether you choose a used Mini Cooper, a used Mini Countryman or the Used Mini One, according Euro NCAP safety should not be a concern.  Both the Cooper and the Countryman rate 5 out of 5 stars for adult occupant safety and the Mini One rates 4 out of 5 stars.  So, with safety concerns taken into consideration, used car purchasers should look for an Approved Used Mini from a reputable dealer.  The Cherished Mini Approval Programme includes:

•    A minimum 12 month MINI Warranty
•    A minimum 12 months of MINI Emergency Service Assistance throughout the UK and Continental Europe
•    Minimum 12 month MOT and MOT Cover
•    Access to the vehicle’s full service history, including a mileage check
•    Affordable financing and insurance through MINI Financial Services for those who qualify.

Tips for Buying a Used Fiat 28
Nov
Posted by cars21 in Car Buying Guide, Fiat on 11 28th, 2010

If you’re in the market for a used Fiat, use the following list of quick tips to help you get the most from your purchase.

What You’ll Pay

Expect to pay at least £7000 for a 2008 entry model used Fiat.  Upgrading to a diesel engine for better fuel economy will raise your starting costs to at least £9000.  If you covet the 500C or the Abarth, you’ll have to add about £3000 to the cost and because these cars are still relatively new, you may be hard-pressed to find one for less than £11,000.

Choosing the Right Model

Most enthusiasts will agree that the 500C is the most desirable used Fiat model, though many buyers may balk at the hefty £3000 extra charge for the 500C’s open roof design.  At the bottom of the line, the Pop has loads of charm and pleasant simplicity at an attractive price.  The 1.4-litre petrol is the best all-around model, while the 1.3 diesel offers an impressive 72mpg.  Whichever you choose, expect plenty of options, excellent five-star crash rating, four seats, and a spacious boot.

Where to Buy

A Fiat dealer will have the best selection, as well as the Approved User programme that promises at least a one-year warranty on any used Fiat.  You’ll also get 30 days to exchange the car for another Fiat.  You might try some car supermarkets, though used Fiats can be hard to come by on these lots.  Non-Fiat dealers and private sellers are rare.

Browsing through car finance companies will also give you the chance to see what used cars are on offer.  Many car finance companies have a wide range of used cars for sale, such as used Hondas, used Minis and used BMWs – some of which are in top condition. In addition to comparing car finance options, you can also compare vehicles to find something that suits your needs.
