Vauxhall Astra VXR 2.0 Reviewed 3

Another fast Vauxhall, ever since the mid to late 80’s Vauxhall have produced some iconic fast cars that are forever written in history like tether Astra GTE and the Lotus Carlton.
The Astra VXR is not to be under estimated in the rankings with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine this little beauty kicks out 237BHP which is great in straight line but just try cornering with a bit of power and it’s a handful to say the least. It does have enough grip if you’re pottering around but want to up the antic and be expect to be bitten and bitten hard. With a maximum speed of 157 MPH and hitting 60 in 6.2 seconds.
There is some extra noise coming from the engine, with the sports exhaust but it is still civilised and you won’t stick out like a young boy racer.

The VXR features a up rated turbocharger, revised inlet and exhaust manifolds and up rated and lowered suspension.
The Astra VXR is cheaper than the VW Golf on a price purchase but in the long run the VW Golf will hold its value better making it a wise buy if you’re looking at contract or lease. The car comes standard with a half leather interior but it looks lovely with the Leather pack which costs around £850 as an optional extra and is quite hard to find in any second hand  Astra VXR so it might also be a wise box to tick to keep the cars value slighter higher if you do decide to lease.

The 18” alloys that come standard on the VXR don’t really seem to fill the arches that well and don’t have that appearance of an 18” alloy so the 19” alloy wheel upgrade is a nice addition at £530.
